Loving this Swedish Home by Marshall Watson

How would you like to have a summer home like this to go to for six weeks each year?

The clients (he's American, she's Swedish) sought the help of New York designer, Marshall Watson, to re-decorate their summer home and guest house for their family and guests.  Living in the United States, they summer in Sweden.

The main house is painted Falun red - a popular Swedish color often seen in local folk art.

Notice the high gloss ceiling and the antique foyer table that was scraped to allow the many coats of colors to show through.

The greens and creams in the living room work beautifully with the Swedish light.  The red trim on the drapery accentuates the library walls.

The bookcases at one end of the living room are also painted Falun red.

What a lovely, sunny dining room!  Love the colors and the farmhouse table mixed with the antiques around the room.

The papered panels certainly accentuate the angled walls.

A delightful nook for a desk with shades of blue accenting the green walls.

And the guest house below in shades of grays and blues is as inviting and cozy as a guest house could possibly be.

The bottom of this sofa pulls out as an extra bed.

Absolutely charming!

Moodboard Monday - Bows Are It

Hi there,

We're enjoying a beautiful sunny morning here today.  I should be able to get a couple of nice long dog walks in today.

But, before I do that, it's time for another moodboard!

We know that the runway fashion shows often are indicators of upcoming trends in all areas and this year the hot trend was bows!

Bows have long been a favorite of Chanel.....in fact, since the very beginning and can be found on their clothes, jewellery and accessories....they even managed to add a couple to their very collectible Barbie couture.

And they have been the favorites of royalty and grand dames  forever in jewellery design.....as evidenced by the number of antique 'bow' jewels on the market.

No matter where you see a bow, they add style and a bit of glam to whatever they adorn.

Enjoy and have a fabulous day!

An Apartment of Her Own

Hi there,

Home again!  Had a lovely visit with my daughter and family this week and celebrated our grandson's 13th birthday!

And as you can see, the blog layout has remained the same.  I attempted to change the look and add sidebars, but realized that if I did, I would have to go back over every post and resize all the images.........way too time consuming!  So, I will leave it as is for now.

Hope you enjoy this beautiful, colorful and feminine Palm Beach apartment designed by T. Keller Donovan.

Designed for Kay Gilman, the first female sportswriter for the New York Daily News, Donovan used the large living room area to provide several conversation areas about the room.  The large sofa faces the windows so the palm trees can be enjoyed and the banquette provides a sunny spot by the window for casual comfort.

Donovan added dressmaker details throughout which only adds to the femininity of the space (notice the bows on the chair below and the headboard).

Take a peek at all the details and enjoy the beautiful colors and design.

Have a great weekend.

Kay

Just a Note

Just a note to let you know I'll be away for a short time.  I have to go out of town and I want to make some changes to my blog layout.

Perhaps you've noticed the banner of heading pictures has been removed from my blog.  I thought I might make some changes to the layout, but it has to be done 'live' and since I'm not really sure what all is involved (even though I set it up originally), please bear with me as I make some changes over the next little while.

I have added the 'Follow by e-mail' window to the top of my blog as it was at the very bottom of the page and I'm not sure how many people actually go right to the bottom.  If you would like to follow me by e-mail, please enter your address there and submit.......it's FREE and you will not receive any spam as a result.  It's all operated by Blogger.com.

Also, if you like what you see on my blog, please feel free to pin, tweet, facebook and tell your friends about it.........the more the merrier.  The buttons for social media are at the bottom of each 'post'.  Or to pin any image, the pin icon shows up on the upper left hand corner of the image.

Also, if you are a blogger and would like to add me to your blogroll, please do.  I would be happy to have my posts shared with anyone interested.

And to each and every one of you who do drop by every day, thank you so much for your interest and always very kind notes......

See you in about a week!!

Kay
