East Meets West in Long Island Home

This large and very beautiful Georgian-style Long Island home was designed by Christopher Maya for a Chinese family moving to America for the first time.

And what a welcome they would receive when stepping into this glorious chinoiserie foyer!  It's breathtakingly pretty with the fresh green of de Gournay papered walls.  I wouldn't want to leave the foyer!

The gallery.

I love the honeycomb design on the painted floor of the breakfast room.

Upstairs landing with the chinoiserie wallpaper from the foyer is the perfect spot to
stop and take a breath and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings.

The trellis overlays are painted in Benjamin Moore's 'Summer Shower'
and the ceiling is done in Benjamin Moore's 'Lookout Point'.

The master bedroom was designed for the couple to enjoy music, fireplace, reading spaces and relaxing.

The daughter's room done in beautiful shades of blue.

Glenn Beach Cottage

Good morning, Everyone!

I'm back home again!  Had a fun ten days with our very busy grandchildren........the time flew by and here I am attempting to get back into a routine.....if there's such a thing!

It seems to snow here every other day and while the 5" of snow we received on Sunday is quickly disappearing with all the rain we've had since, more snow is forecast for this Thursday and Friday!

I have another cottage from The Cottage Company of Harbor Springs today.  This cottage is a makeover and larger than the cottages I featured previously.

Vee Mossburg has taken it from a very colorful cottage to a more neutral palette.  The color scheme was taken from the Swedish mora clock in the foyer, which was the inspiration for the colors throughout.

The whole house is wood just as houses were built before the days of gyproc and MDF - ceilings, floors and walls are filled with beadboard, shiplap, wainscoting, mouldings, baseboards and hardwood floors.

Beautiful detail!

The Swedish mora clock in the foyer.

Love the dining table in front of the fireplace.

Have a great day!

A Sarah Richardson Country House - Before and After

Hi Everyone!

I'm back!  Had a great month off (a bit longer than I had planned), but it flew by so fast I can hardly believe it!

I'm sure you all remember my past posts here and here on Sarah Richardson, one of Canada's foremost designers.....I haven't seen much of her work lately, but thought I would check out her latest projects and came upon this makeover.

This was an 80s bungalow badly in need of a makeover........she enlarged the typically small bungalow windows, upgraded the trim and baseboards and of course, added her own unique touches using flea market finds, painted antiques and fresh colors and fabrics to bring the house back to life.  See the 'befores' here.

Hope you are all having a wonderful summer, too!  Have a great day!

Enjoy!

What a serene room......love the ceiling and note the antique corbels on the fireplace, the wainscoting, large baseboards, soft colors and large windows...........transforming details.

Beautiful vignette.

Great gingerbread trim around the vanity.

Love the mix and match of the floor tiles and the shower tile detail.

Just lovely!

More mixed and matched floor tiles......it's all in the details!

The bucket pulley is a cute idea for a top bunk.
