AGA Ranges

After yesterday's post about the kitchen designed around an aubergine stove that the homeowner found at a clearance sale, I wondered if I would spend that amount of money on an appliance that I really wanted, but wasn't sure of the color (even at a discount, these stoves are still very pricey).  Of course, it helps to have a friend/interior designer standing by to steer you in the right direction in co-ordinating the rest of the kitchen design, but could I live with a color that was not my first choice.  I really am not sure I could.  Could you?

I've added some colors below to show you what's available in AGAs.......

They are certainly beautiful and I like the idea of so many ovens, no knobs and heating the kitchen.
The following information is from an article in the Wall Street Journal:
"AGA
The cast-iron, British-made AGA is different from most ranges in that it isn't just for cooking, but for keeping the kitchen warm. The original AGA, which dates back to 1922, was designed to stay on all the time. Nowadays, an AGA user can program the stove to turn on at certain times. In the U.K., a smartphone app allows users to set their AGAs remotely and text them commands, such as "roasting oven on," says company spokesperson Laura James. The Five-Oven AGA Total Control has separate ovens for roasting, baking, simmering, slow-cooking and warming. It comes in 12 colors, such as "duck egg blue," "heather" and "aubergine" (shown here).
Price: $20,299 (Five-Oven AGA Total Control)" = $29,000 CAD

A Liz Caan Kitchen

This homey kitchen in a former carriage house came about when the homeowner found this aubergine Aga range on sale and had her designer, Liz Caan, design the kitchen around it.

Notice this stove is actually two stoves combined - an original Aga on the right which stays on all the time and actually heats the room (popular in cooler climates like the U.K.) and a two-oven gas range on the left designed for U.S. markets.  Combined, they appear to be one range - what a great idea!

After finding the island they liked, the designer realized it was too small for the space and had an extension added to each side.  The cabinetry colors were then chosen to blend with the island.

The dining area seating and full size kitchen carpet add to the homey feel.

Love the gingham fabric and skirted farmhouse sink.

The brass tap and wooden handle reflect the history of the carriage house.

Moodboard Monday - Blue and White Delight

Good morning everyone!  Can't believe it's Monday again already!
As you will see below, we are going to enjoy a "perfect pairing" of blue and white today and in order to keep the post a little shorter than previous moodboard posts, I've restricted the images to interior ideas only (and that includes art).

Let me know if you like the longer or shorter moodboard posts - would love to hear from you!

Thanks for dropping by today and hope you have a wonderful day!

Enjoy!

TBT - Lynn von Kersting

It's been a while since we've seen any new designs by Lynn von Kersting........she was everywhere about ten years ago and is still popular on Pinterest.

I happened to have Diedre Hall's studio dressing room by Lynn and it has all the hallmarks of a von Kersting design - a mix of wonderful fabrics (chintz, gingham, silk, small checks), books, fresh flowers, botanical wall art, seashells, many, many colors combined beautifully and a dash of antiques and pop art.

In this small room alone, I see green walls along with accent colors of red, yellow, mauve, blue, pink, turquoise, navy blue, red and white stripe and leopard print.

If one was talking about putting all those colors together in one small room, we would think it would never work!  But with Lynn von Kersting, it works every time.

Loved her signature look then and still do!

Palm Beach Villa

After a couple of days of black and white images and cloudy skies in Charlottetown, I need a dose of sunshine!

So-o-o-o, let's take a little trip to Palm Beach where sunny skies pour down over what is considered the prettiest town in all of America.

Strategically situated on the waterfront sits a grand villa that exudes sumptuous charm inside and out. You need only to glance at the yellow stuccoed, Palladian featured villa, surrounded by palm trees and stone balconies and stairs, to realize someone has given a lot of thought to making the most of its very special circumstances.

Having purchased this 1920s John Volk designed home years ago, the present owners worked with architect, Thomas Kirchhoff, to bring the home up to its present standards.

The American diplomat and his wife had spent stints in Europe and with her background in design and love of art, she has managed to lighten and brighten the previously darkened interiors with her swaths of custom colored Donald Kaufman paints in shades of blue that blend beautifully with the sea and sky.

With her wonderful shades of blue on the walls, blue and white ceramics, vases of fresh flowers throughout, mirrored furniture (for reflection), antiques, unique art work, and scads of luscious fabrics, the overall result is a breath of fresh air.

Notice the Picasso and Matisse studies on each side of the fireplace.  The buffalo check window treatments certainly lend a relaxed feel to the living room.

The dark antique Chinese cabinet holds Roman glass.

Love this mirrored hutch filled with a collection of blue and white ceramics.  Notice, also, the fabric panelled walls.

Soothing, calm and so, so pretty!
