Toile Tales
Toile de Jouy is fabric that was initially designed with scenes which tell a story......peasant life, pastoral and farm life, romance, etc. And in the beginning it was usually one color on a light background (i.e., red on cream).
'Toile' being the French word for 'cloth' and Jouy being the area of France where it became mass manufactured, it was believed to have originated in France, but, in fact, it originated in England, and it was the French who made it famous.
Now, in our age of super mass production, it no longer is just printed on fabric, but can be found on just about anything one can imagine - shoes, wallpaper, lamp shades, dishes, furniture, mirrors......whatever the mind can imagine. And it no longer just 'tells tales', it now is available in florals, as seen below. It is also available in many, many color combinations and no longer just two colors.....often three.
Today, I am going to feature red toiles.......hope you enjoy! Another day, another color!
And have a great weekend!

Moodboard Monday - Hen Party
Good morning, Everyone!
I am hoping this week will not be as busy as last week.....I did well to get my posts up.
I went to Halifax, NS, last week to pick up our granddaughter who will be working in Charlottetown for the rest of the summer and, of course, staying with us. She just returned from two weeks in Basel, Switzerland, where she was part of the Canadian Highland Dancing contingent for the Basel International Tattoo, so she has had a very busy summer. She also danced in the Halifax Tattoo during the first week of July, so she's been going pretty much nonstop.
While she is here, I hope to spend some time with her taking in a few events here on the island......
She will be celebrating her 17th birthday here this week, so her parents and younger brother were over on the weekend and we had a celebratory dinner out on the weekend.......after spending the day at Basin Head beach, which was recently named one of the world's 10 best beaches!! It has singing sands.......if you haven't heard of it, you must google it.
So much about what is going on here. I hope you have all had a great week, too! I'm going to try and watch some of the Olympics this week, as well.
Now, back to the business of blogging.
Nearly every week, I think that Moodboard Monday will soon be coming to an end. And then I find a new moodboard and get inspired all over again.
This week's Hen Party was a bit tricky at times, but I think I found a few different things and naturally had to throw in a few roosters (they couldn't be avoided) - so I hope you enjoy!
Have a great day!

No one loved their hens, or hen collection, more than the late Duchess of Devonshire, Deborah (the last of the six Mitford sisters). When she passed away in 2014, her hen collection was sold through Sotheby's.
Some of her beloved items are shown below:
Chick brooch

The Duchess was also a big fan of Elvis!

And last, but certainly not least, a bejewelled hen!
As she should be!
