Pantone's Colors of the Year 2016

Taking a little break from Christmas ideas this morning to comment on today's announcement of Pantone's Colors of the Year 2016 - not one color, but two for the first time ever.  And they are two of my favorite colors - pink (Rose Quartz) and blue (Serenity).

I know we'll be seeing a lot more of these combined colors soon, in fashion and interiors.

As the Executive Director of Pantone's Color Institute  explains, “In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design,” Leatrice Eiseman said. “This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.”

I've been pinning 'pinks and blues' for some time, so it was easy for me to come up with these images on short notice.  I didn't have time to look for these colors in fashion today, but we're sure to be seeing more of them very soon.

As you can see, these colors have been used together for a long time, but from now on when we see them together, they will have new meaning perhaps......"gender equality and fluidity".

Have a great weekend and hope you enjoy the pretty images below.

It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas........

Hi Everyone,

We awoke to a blanket of snow a couple of days ago and that helped to put me in the mood for Christmas decorating..........

Today, I'm featuring a very traditional red, white and green theme for the holidays.  The images are all from different sources and chosen especially for their colors.  In the days ahead, I'll be trying other holiday colors and ideas.

Have a great day!

Christmas with Cindy Rinfret

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a nice relaxing weekend and managed to get some of your Christmas shopping done.

It's almost time to get our decorations out......definitely this week......

This beautiful French country, Jack Arnold designed, Connecticut home of interior designer Cindy Rinfret and her family certainly provides lots of ideas.  With a few garlands, wreaths, fresh flowers, greens and smaller trees placed here and there, she has managed to add a touch of the season to every room in the house.......all done beautifully.

Even the family pets are in on the celebrations with their own tree in the back entry........

FF - Trevor and Alexis Traina's San Francisco Home

Hi there,

Here it is Flashback Friday again.......

This master bedroom of Alexis and Trevor Traina has been around for awhile, but I just discovered it this week when I bought 'Ann Getty Interior Style' book by Diane Dorrans Saeks.

While the whole house is beautiful, it was the master bedroom that really caught my eye.

To start with, the pink toile is really stunning - and with the custom made, cast-bronze twig arms acting as the headboard to drape the fabric over, with lanterns hanging on each side of the bed from the twig, it's absolutely dreamy.  Also, notice the twig window rods.  The twig framing was made by San Francisco artist, Andrew Fisher.

The faux-bois painted paneled walls were beautifully done by Karin Wikstrom.

P.S. My left margin is not engaging for some reason - centering my script is not deliberate.....another fix to work on this weekend.

Have a great weekend!

A conversation area by the bed.

Beautiful japanned secretary.

Another seating area in front of the fireplace.

Alexis' private bath is in a sun-bathed oval room of the house with Nina Campbell's parrot fabric at the windows.  Always loved that fabric with parrots, pink roses, butterflies and ornamental cherries, as seen below.
